Dawg Preview |
Defensive Line
by BerwickDawgs.com
The Dawgs lost 2 of their 3 down defensive linemen from a year ago. However, they may have come back stronger and faster. Led by 2 year returning starter Chris Ervin the defense will have no problems getting through the line and stopping the run game. Next to him on the line will Josh Walsh, Ralph Rostock, and Zeb Bankes. They will be looking to repeat a defense that didnt give up more than 23 points in a game last season.
Chris Ervin (5 10 180) will be starting his third year at defensive tackle where he was third on the team last year in tackles with 101, 5 for a loss. He also 6 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and 3 blocked kicks. As a sophomore he was also third in tackles, 64, 7 for loss, 4 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and one blocked kick. Josh Walsh (59 170) will be starting at nose guard and although he seems small on paper he a district wrestling champion and is very strong. His smaller size will help him get through the line and his strength will surprise the offensive line. He will also be seeing time at fullback. Ralph Rostock, an all-conference player from a year ago joins the Dawgs this year to complete the defensive line. With his size he is quick and strong. He should be a great player and help the team in the rush defense. Zeb Bankes (6 270) may also be seeing some playing time on the defense.
With the talent the Dawgs have they should have no problems on the line. They will be tested this year though as they face some great running offenses including the nations top running back, LeSean McCoy.
